School Project (2019): Purple Rain, Space Oddity & Beallara Purple Haze Orchid
These collections are three distinct sets of outfits unified under a single theme, inspired by my all-time style and music icons: Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix. With Purple Rain, Space Oddity, and Beallara Purple Haze Orchid, I aimed to pay tribute to their bold, fearless, and androgynous styles. These legends not only shaped music but also paved the way for the cultural changes we see in fashion today, and I wanted to celebrate their influence through my styling.
PURPLE RAIN COLLECTION
For the Purple Rain collection, I chose the color purple, often unconventional for menswear, and explored "feminine" fabrics and patterns to challenge traditional norms. Inspired by fashion trends from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, I aimed to celebrate a mix of bold, eclectic styles. For the first set of outfits, I incorporated the iconic Buffalo hat from Vivienne Westwood's Autumn/Winter 1982-83 collection, "Buffalo Girls (Nostalgia of Mud)," as a thematic element, blending vintage influences with a modern twist.
The 80s hip-hop, street style-inspired outfits. The joining element was a Kangol hat.
The 70s and 80s fashion inspired set.
SPACE ODDITY COLLECTION
This collection draws inspiration from David Bowie and his imaginative, romantic vision of the cosmos and space exploration. I wanted to capture the sense of wonder and boundary-pushing creativity that defined Bowie's style. As a thematic element, I chose an oversized retro astronaut helmet, a nod to the glam-rock era's fascination with futurism and the unknown. This helmet serves as a bold statement piece, reflecting the dreamlike exploration and fearless individuality that Bowie embodied.
I picked a plastic over-top bra for the joining element and a helmet as a theme item for the second set.
The third set, David Bowie-inspired "Lady Stardust." I used stars as the theme element.
BEALLARA PURPLE HAZE ORCHID COLLECTION
The Beallara Purple Haze collection is inspired by the orchid of the same name, named in honor of Jimi Hendrix. This collection offers a fresh interpretation of "Flower Power," reflecting Hendrix's unique blend of boldness and artistry. With Hendrix's roots in the UK music scene, I wanted to incorporate elements of classic British gentleman fashion while keeping it playful and unconventional. The designs blend tailored silhouettes with unexpected details, vibrant patterns, and luxurious textures, capturing Hendrix's flair for the dramatic and his ability to effortlessly fuse elegance with a rebellious spirit.

First set: casual "flower power" look for a man.
Jimi Hendrix had a deep appreciation for the Orient and often wore striking kimonos as part of his eclectic style. For the second set, I designed a look for the modern traveling businessman, replacing the traditional blazer with a kimono. This piece adds an unexpected twist to classic menswear, merging East and West influences while paying homage to Hendrix's unique fashion sense.
Third set: gentleman "flower power" look.
